Health Co-op

The Community First Health Co-op took ownership May, 2006 of the ex-forestry building and its associated vacant land, located respectively at 518 and 504 Lake Street, Nelson, BC.   The Health Co-op vision is to combine traditional medical services and alternative medicine practices in a single location, with an additional focus on education and prevention for young and old alike.  The building has over 16,000 sq. ft. of leasable space and we now have 90% of the building committed to.

Community First Health Co-op

Assets now over $1,000,000

 

Doug Stoddart, Treasurer, of Community First Health Co-op released the 2007 Financial Statement at last night’s Annual General Meeting with the comment “Assets of Community First Health Co-op now exceed $1,000,000”. The Annual General Meeting was held in the Health Co-op’s new Wellness Centre at 518 Lake Street with over 70 people attending. Stoddart also pointed out that Community Partners have contributed over $250,000 into renovations and the Wellness Centre has reached a break-even point.

 

In her annual report, Deb Zeeben, Chair of Community First Health Co-op, stated “With community partners including Nelson Community Services Centre Society, Acupuncture and Natural Health Clinic, Community First Medical Clinic, Kootenay Boundary Regional Resources Co-op, West Kootenay Childcare Resources & Referral, Selkirk College, Kootenay Kids Society, Children First and Nelson & District Credit Union - the quest has begun!” 

 

The Health Co-op vision is to combine traditional medical services and alternative medicine practices in a single location, with an additional focus on education and prevention for young and old alike. Lynn Adams, Chair of the Health Co-op’s Communication Committee and a member of the Community Advisory Group, stated “This vision is supported by the Community Advisory Group and involves Selkirk College’s Nursing Program”. The Community Advisory Group was established through a partnership grant from the Human Health Council.

 

In closing, Zeeben stated “We continue to have inquiries from many practitioners near and far, interested in joining this community’s vision for achieving wellness. When the community owns the vision, it is achievable!”
